Spisslønn / Norway Maple

Sound installation, 2025

Three metal horn speakers resonate with vocal compositions created through slow, attentive listening to/with a Norway Maple tree near my home in upstate NY.

Acer platanoides -- known as 'Spisslønn' in Norwegian and 'Norway maple' in English -- is indigenous to Europe and labeled “invasive” in New York State. Through field recording, song, and speech, the piece meditates on colonial histories and capitalist forces that move bodies across worlds and through time.

It is installed as an offering to a Spisslønn / Norway Maple tree in Moss, Norway, as part of the Nordic Biennale of Contemporary Art: Momentum 13.
